The CTO / VP of Technology and Development will be responsible for companys technical vision and leading all aspects of technology development, according to the strategic directions and growth objectives. He / she will manage the software engineering, content development, and IT/web operation teams and work with the Company product management team to develop world class products, engaging with customers, and partnering with the leadership team for overall business success. | | Duties: | RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead the strategy for technology platforms, partnerships and external relationships.
Build, lead, empower, develop and motivate software engineering, content development, and IT/web operations functions to own and drive successful deliver of all products while contributing to the product strategy and the overall product roadmap.
Clearly define and establish technical standards and ensure best practices in software product development are adhered to across the company.
Work effectively with product managers, project managers, software engineers, and senior management to allocate technology resources appropriately across various projects, juggling current customer/prospect needs with longer term roadmap needs, weighing, balancing, and communicating tradeoffs as necessary.
Implement processes and metrics to insure the technology organization is extremely efficient and focused, and that the product is market ready.
Develop technology contingency plans to assure projects stay on track.
Collaborate with senior management to assess and recommend technologies in support of company needs.
Foster a culture of creativity, collaboration, speed, innovation, excellence, and a fun work environment while continuously elevating the quality and caliber of our product development organization.
Manage expectations, set realistic goals, and achieve them.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises Software Engineering, Content Development, IT/Web Operations, external technology resources, and contractors.
| | Qualifications: | 10+ years of software engineering management experience and 7+ years of software development experience building and scaling web applications to millions of users
Demonstrated experience leading the design, development, delivery, support and maintenance of a large scale, high performing, technically complex, reliable and robust online application
Demonstrated track record of successfully hiring, motivating, retaining and effectively deploying talented software developers and consultants to perform against aggressive delivery goals
Experience with a variety of software development processes, and ability to apply the right process for the project. At least two years of participation in Agile development
Knowledge of release management and deployment workflow processes, from development release through staging and production deployment
Ability to evangelize and sell stakeholders across the company on key engineering priorities and how they connect with larger company initiatives
Significant experience contributing to a senior management team. This assumes participation in strategic and business planning, product strategy, operations, sales, marketing, and overall business direction
Experience making major investment decisions for third party tools or technologies, build vs. buy, and fund or not fund decisions
Strong interpersonal skills
Proven ability to build productive relationships and motivate team members. Must have a positive, can-do attitude
Mid-stage start-up management experience a huge plus
Background and in-depth knowledge of search and social media technologies a plus
